The movie had lots of meaning, and in the end, I had tears in my eyes. It is profoundly moving, and you would see the point of what clowns are. They are human under their disguise and hide the real person. In the days where there were circuses under the big top, the clowns played an important role. They immediately come in between acts and entertain the children and adults. I remember laughing at the clown's antics when I was a child. Today, through the media and other entertainment, clowns are depicted as mean and evil. Unfortunately, children get scared and don't understand the clown's role. Here, in the same manner, it happens. Hiding under all that makeup is someone who tries to be a real circus clown and entertain. I wanted to see IT and IT2, but I didn't as that would be scary for me, and I am an adult. I am so glad that Joaquin Phoenix got the oscar for best actor and was hoping he would. If he didn't, I would go to the Oscars myself and protest. Joker is a great movie that has lots of meaning—a must-see.

Talented acting by Phoenix.Good story of an intelligent, devolving character. Good vs evil.

Not what you would expect when you think of The Joker but this is a great movie! It’s more of an origin story of how he became the villain we all love to hate! Highly recommend!!

Bought this in July 2023. Digital copy code had expired in 12/31/2021. Not a huge deal since I got it mainly for the UHD Blu-ray, but still isn't great since it's advertised as including a digital copy.

Be careful watching this movie. It is a deep psychological twister. I watched it twice, back to back in one night and I woke the next morning a little twisted. (and I'm not like that) It actually affected me in a negative manner..... and I say that as a good thing. The movie has impact..... and in today's movie world... that's saying a lot. This is one very twisted movie and every actor/actress nailed it! If you are an amateur student of the mental...... you will get twisted over this movie.

I didn't give the actual movie 4 stars but the fact that the "special features disc wouldn't play properly. Othewise I would have given it 5 stars.Well to my surprise this came with to dvd's one was the movie and the other special features. Only problem is the disc with the special features isn't playing very well and thats unacceptable .The movie was not what I was expecting there are no light hearted moments in this movie it is what they used to say in the "old school" day a "bummer" from beginning to end. Not a over the top violent movie and if I compared this movie to "The Dark Knight" this is tame. It's dark because of the reasons why the Joker himself is and is mostly about how he deals with life and why.Joaquin Phoenix does a FANTASTICALLY GREAT job with this character and can see him winning best actor for this at the Oscars/Academy Awards in this Feb. I'd really be very surprised and even disappointed if for some reason he didn't win it.

Loved it. Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal of The Joker was excellent.

More than a comic film, Joker reminded me of movies about Americans snapping like Falling Down or Taxi Driver. Joaquin Phoenix plays Arthur Fleck, a failed clown and comic who turns to violence.Phoenix's performance is very well done, but the script could have used more thought. Things get a bit repetitive as we see Fleck's sad sack life and the forces arrayed against him. For comic fans there's an interesting plot twist involving the Wayne family. They also use the trick of the unreliable narrator but, IMHO, tip their hands too soon. The not-quite 70s New York setting is very well done, little touches like the garbage strike and the graffiti-covered subways took me right back to my childhood. And reminded me why I don't go there much.It was a good film but not yet a great one.

If you are expecting a movie that glorifies violence or makes mental illness look cool, this is not the movie for you.Joaquin Phoenix absolutely nailed it in this film. I never expected to see him come through in a role of this type although I do enjoy his acting. He really blew me away. This movie is dark. The themes are dark. It is filmed in a very real way and, by this, I mean that it looks like a walk down the street. Characters are gritty. There are no bright colors or stage theatrics that make you go, "wow." Nothing snarky or exciting in the way some might have experienced "Suicide Squad." Just s real sad story about a man with as legitimate illness, who lost access to his meds due to public funding cuts and went down am incredibly painful path.Having experienced a close relationship with someone who experiences psychosis, he portrayed the part very, frighteningly well. The things he saw were so real to him, as they will be to you. Truly a remarkable movie.Do not watch it with your kids, even if they are teens unless you are well prepared to explain what it is they are viewing. Even then i would not risk it. Im not kidding when I say, this film is dark. It leaves you feeling a little broken inside.

I did not expect this to be such a great film going in, but it completely exceeded all of my expectations. What masterful filmmaking! The story, the cinematography, the musical score (couldn't be more perfect), and of course, the acting! I did not expect such a well-developed, complete, deeply layered character as was so brilliantly delivered by Joaquin Phoenix in what is undoubtedly a tour de force performance that was already rewarded with a Golden Globe, and hopefully will receive an Academy Award as well. I will never look at Joker the same way again. As manifested through Phoenix, he is so surprisingly relatable, his haplessness and desire to fit in while constantly being shunned by just about everyone and society at large, is heartbreaking. His mounting rage hides such profound pain, isolation and sadness, that I rooted for him all throughout the movie, no matter what unlawful and seemingly heinous acts he would commit. Arthur Fleck is the ultimate underdog, a social pariah through no fault of his own, a seeming victim of life circumstances that are outside his control. His pain is the collective pain of disconnection and struggle to fit in, or to "make it" in a system that is anything but rigged in your favor. The film is both an intimate portrait of a man and a powerful social commentary, and Phoenix's performance is iconic and unforgettable.
