Very good movie, telling an amazing true story about the Japanese diplomat who followed his conscience in granting transit visas to over 2000 Jews in Lithuania to save them from the Holocaust during WWII. For the most part, the direction and acting are also excellent. There are a few hard-to-follow parts in the opening, and a bit of slightly unexpressive speech and acting by Irina, the Russian spy who loved him. This version turned out to be Region 2 (Europe & Japan) with only German language options for subtitles and dubbed dialogue. Fortunately, I happen to have a multiregion DVD player and also, luckily, I happen to speak Japanese quite fluently (after studying & living in Japan for years) -- so I was still able to use this. But I was disappointed it didn't have English or even Japanese subtitles, which would help me from missing things.
