Atomic Blonde

This post cold-war spy thriller is just flat out rockin'. Ms. T does all her own stunts, the fight scenes were so brutal and well done that I had to take a nap afterwords due to exhaustion. And Sofia Boutella? Uh...wow. THe movie has a good, albeit simple plot, but the action more than makes up for it. Right up there along with SALT and Red Sparrow (which I thought was outstanding, despite the shitty reviews. Who are those guys, anyway?) Anyway, watch this one for sure, on an indoor date night, because after seeing the stunning Ms. T and Sofia together? Yeah, you'll be ready. LOL. Seriously, great spy thriller.

Looks and sounds awesome on 4K. The picture is very nice, it’s not a huge improvement over the older blu-ray, but that’s because the older blu-ray had a good transfer. There is more detail and the neon colors look fantastic. The Dolby Atmos track is REALLY good, the classic 80’s tunes soundtrack rocks, and the surrounds are used to great effect in the “umbrella” scene and all the action at the films climax. If you’re a fan of the movie, this is the version you want!

When my wife suggested that we watch this I was relieved because I wanted to watch it but was worried that I would find it enjoyable midway through the movie. With her suggestion, I felt there were good odds that at least one of us would like it and we both ended up loving it! I feel like the studio must not have marketed this movie up to its potential because I was blown away by how perfectly the late 80s atmosphere was captured. It felt and sounded like an 80s movie, but the visuals were definitely modern. There were so many scenes were it seemed like things were shot with minimal cuts involved. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys action, intrigue, collapsing walls, neon, and perfectly timed 80s music.

Charlize Theron and James Mcavoy both turn in stellar performances in Atomic Blonde. The fight choreography in this movie is top notch, rivaling a number of the best action movies out there, and the camera work is nothing short of amazing. That said, the audio quality sucks, to the extent that there were many times that my family and I either could not hear or understand the dialogue, and that is with our sound at 100%. Of the supporting characters, John Goodman is excellent. However, remove the acting talents of Theron, Mcavoy and Goodman, and this would be a two star movie at best.

Excellent movie; action-packed, well worth the $3.99. Having had, I usually find it hard to believe some female actresses in this type of role (like the females Keri Russell in "Americans" or Angelina Jolie in "Salt") and usually change the channel (yawn!), however, ATOMIC BLONDE does a believable job as a female 80s Borne-type. Great 80s soundtrack, with a German twist and nice kick at the end of the movie. James McAvoy does a good job, even if he thinks he's too short to get regular acting roles. Film falls in the "John Wick" genre but better acting. Not a family film.

If you're wanting to see action movies with hot women spies then check out... Salt (with Angelina Jolie).... the tv series Alias (Jennifer Garner)... tv series La Femme Nikita (1997-2001).... then the reboot of that series, called Nikita (2010-2013)... the tv series Revenge.... and the movie Mr & Mrs Smith (Angelina Jolie).The movie Atomic Blonde is waaaay action packed, but the movie is mediocre at best. But if after a hard day at work you need to veg out and mindless watch blond spies kick a*ss, Atomic Blind will do the trick!

Personally, I like this movie, although some with short attention spans may have difficulty in following the plot line. It does not plod. This particular purchase is intended as a gift for someone that enjoys these kind of movies. It is intense--exciting--twisty in some ways and if you like good fight scenes...I mean REALLY good fight scenes, the movie is worth the cost for that alone. Clever? You be the judge.

I hadn't thought he filled a large role, and I was right. However, HE STEALS EVERY SCENE and gives a top notch performance, as usual. Did not care for the movie otherwise. Too convoluted as opposed to a few surprise twists. You can't be too put off by violence now days or you cut your movie options in half, but I tired quickly of it here. Not a Charlize fan with all her steely repression. Use Netflix and absorb McAvoy's genius.

Love the 80’s fashions and music in this kick ass spy thriller. Charlize and cast are amazing! Really hoping for a sequel.

Charlize Theron, James McAvoy, Sofia Boutella, John Goodman, what else do I need to say? This movie is highly stylized and if you grew up in the 80’s, irresistible. Berlin 1989 and the Berlin Wall is falling. This spy spies on spy spies on spy is intricate enough to keep you guessing. There are a few plot holes but who cares? Charlize Theron kicks ass with her usual amazing performance and James McAvoy is at his best. Sofia Boutella is sexy and vulnerable. John Goodman hits all the right notes. The villains are cliche but Theron’s contacts are fresh and fun. A thoroughly entertaining spy thriller.
