Great movie

For me, I knew this sequel was a foregone conclusion after seeing the first movie. My fear was that sequels sometimes fail to live up to the standard of the first movie. That's not the case here. This is not only a great sequel but, in many ways, a much better movie than the first. In the three years since 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes', Wita Digital has made huge leaps in their digital technology and this movie has an even more realistic look than the first. It also explores more of the relationships between the apes species and the human species. And, of course, it leaves the possibility of another movie to keep this new franchise alive. If you are a fan of all the Planet of the Apes going back to the original in 1968, I highly recommend 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes'. Just make sure you've seen 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' first!

Puts other POA movies in perspective

Not as great as 1968's "Planet of the Apes," but "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and "Rise" before it are better, in my view, than any of the other 60s-70s movies. I actually enjoyed Dawn more than Rise — primarily because I'm not much of a fan of James Franco. Dawn does a great, short, neat job of laying to rest questions viewers might have about the fate of people in the first film. Some of the characters — the idiot brutish human drone, the brutish conniving human leader (Gary Oldman, doing much the same thing he did in "Book of Eli) — are predictable. And there are serious plot weaknesses (why do all these post-apocalyptic movies have old technology that is made to work so easily?), but 3D quality, overall acting, story, and design more than make up for it.

Oh, this one was good! The ongoing, and latest remake of, the Planet of the Apes, has gone all out by adding a new twist! Instead of trying to just do a simple copy of this obviously unforgettable story, this "The Dawn of the POTA" has gone into a new direction! The concept of making a POTA movie that takes place BEFORE the famous -the epic beginning- of the very first movie staring Charlton Heston, but, AFTER the Rise of the Planet of the apes, where Cesar leads the uprising of his abused kindred apes; this was a stroke of genius! So instead of just a "remake" with better cinematography, it's a whole new spin altogether! THIS POTA shows HOW the actual war started that led to the final (and unwanted) confrontation that sets the stage for the start of the whole phenomenon of this iconic film. It ties in timeline from the fall of man, to the splashdown in the future. Great movie! Great concept.
