This was an interesting movie with more than one plot as Elvis convinces one of his old "crew" (fortunately a good friend), to travel to Washington D.C. with him to meet President Nixon. Kevin Spacey was very convincing and funny as President Nixon, and Elvis, though he didn't look quite like himself, had a way about him that was believable and likable, if lacking in good sense. Not a barn burner of a movie, but entertaining.

Really fun interesting film with some very standout performances. It's kind of refreshing that neither lead feels like they are doing an impersonation. They are actors playing characters. Those characters happen to be Nixon and Elvis but they know nobody is going to be fooled by a lot of makeup and such so they play the character with a nod to looking like and sounding like. It actually makes it much more "real".

A really great show to watch. Having grown up in that era, loving Elvis from the beginning and voting for Nixon, we thoroughly enjoyed the re-creating of the personalities involved. We're guessing that there was not a verbatim script of the dialogue that took place originally, however knowing both personalities from the news they made - it sure was fun to witness what it might have been like. We laughed a lot.

It was a little hard to see Michael Shannon play Elvis, but once you got past the shock of his ugly mug playing the handsome King of Rock and Roll he actually gave a nuanced and believable portrayal. The movie itself had many laugh out loud moments, especially for anyone who lived through the Nixon years. Kevin Spacy's Nixon was hysterically funny. Not winning any awards, but this movie is definitely worth a watch.

I'm not that familiar with Shannon, but have been following Kevin Spacey for some time. I was very impressed with hisportrayal of Nixon. He has the reputation of being crude, but I saw a softer side of him in the scenes where he was tryingto get an autograph from Elvis for daughter Julie. He'd certainly done his homework in nailing down all of Nixon's body moves.Very entertaining film. Great work from both stars!

I got over Shannon not looking exactly like Elvis after five seconds. We do not need makeup and special effects when acting does just fine to convey the needed mood and plot advancement. I'm also glad that Spacey didn't get a prosthetic nose to be Nixon. Some intense acting from the main actors, and it did not disappoint. I really enjoyed Shannon bringing me a darker Elvis, the person with burdens of stardom that no impersonator ever delves into. The movie doesn't drag, but it does have contemplative moments. It's complicated, absolutely not a comedy - but it has some very funny moments. Neither Elvis nor Nixon was comfortable with the USA of the 1970s, and this film captures that sense in a beautiful way.

There are so many Elvis look alikes, but that wasn't what this movie was really about. Michael Shannon In any movie, is always amazing. He puts his soul into a character. And this one was no different. He could have easily looked and sounded like Elvis, but Kevin Spacey could have sounded exactly like Nixon too. They weren't going for duplicating every other movie out there, just 2 days of both their lives.

Michael Shannon does an excellent job of capturing Elvis's persona at this point in his life--when things were reaching a point of no return and the outer image and the inner lonely man-child looking for acceptance and happiness in anything were beginning to implode. Kevin Spacey is perfect as Nixon, grumpy, paranoid, and completely out of touch. This is a funny, ironic, and sometimes sad (knowing what was soon to happen to both men) depiction of a fact-based meeting.

Although there is no way of knowing how much truth is included in the film, other than the fact that Elvis and Nixon did meet in December 1970 this is nonetheless an interesting and entertaining movie that was better than expected. The movie (like Elvis himself) was captivating. The viewer will have to get by the facial differences in the actor than the true persons, which I was able to do. I recommend this movie. JRLinTN

It's an interesting series of speculations about the meeting between Nixon and Presley.Among the unintended consequences of the scenario was a lucid and accurate display of Nixon's numerous character idiosyncrasies as well as speculations into Presley's mental state at that point in his career.Although I have little interest in Presley, a far more deliberative and comprehensive expose' of those involved in the management of this nation during the Nixon administration would certainly be quite enlightening.
