I must admit that I was against the idea of this sequel at first. I loved the original as a kid and I couldn't imagine a version without Robin Williams. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The updated version of Jumanji as a video game was great and I really liked that they included common troupes like non player characters making info dumps of everyone's backstory. I laughed like a big donkey at someone dying over a piece of cake. It was everything I never knew I wanted in a sequel.

I grew up watching the original Jumanji movie starring Robin Williams and to this day, 23 years later, I still consider it one of my favorites. My 11 year old son also grew up watching the original (I'll take full credit, thank you lol) and when we saw the trailer for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, we were so excited to see it!! I was his age when the original came out, so I couldn't wait to take him to see the new one. It takes place in the game this time around and invokes a sense of adventure and sometimes, fear! It was also very funny, thanks to the cast. There was a slight hiccup for me...I could have done without the mention of a certain part of the male anatomy (happens a few times). I'm no prude but I was really hoping for that wholesome feel that was present in the original. It was obvious enough for my son to lean over and ask what the characters were talking about. I get it, times have changed *sigh*. All around, it was very enjoyable and I loved it enough to preorder it on . :)

Of course, the original was out when my offspring were little, and it was one of those 'play 1 million times' picks. I was hesitant at first to watch this, but my daughter convinced me it was a must. I've now forced the other two and the hubby to watch it. Both sons were super critical at first and then BAM the gleeful laughter started. The hubby rolled his eyes and set himself to hate it but also laughed the entire way through it.Dwayne Johnson proved himself a solid actor in Get Shorty, but he's rolling all the way to the bank with his not taking himself too seriously comedic chops. Add Jack Black, whom I adore and Kevin Hart, whom I could take or leave (but nailed this for me) and my darling Karen Gillan and this is a good time, kid-friendly, grab the popcorn and beat the heat movie.I can even ignore the fact that the scriptwriters completely ignore the larger lesson about cheating though if my kids were young, we would definitely be having a discussion about it. It was just fun.

It is hard to do a sequel better than the first movie, if the movie is any good to start with. This was by far and away much better than the original in my opinion and that is saying a lot considering Robin Williams was in the other one. However, the modern twist and humor really came through in a pleasant way. I found it quite entertaining as did my entire family. We saw it at the movies and then again on. I should add that I like the Rock and not for his muscles but for his smile. He just makes the movie nicer. I have watched it a few times and will probably watch it again. For parents, a small warning, as a mother of six girls (now teenagers and up) there is talk about a male organ that is a little detailed, since a girl has it now. I did not mind because of the age of my girls and it was humorously done, but it could bother some families. No other inappropriate behavior in my opinion.

This movie is just too funny. Too see the men, in particular, to act contrary to their character is hysterical. Don't know that I would recommend for little children due to some of the language, which is totally uncalled for cause the movie would stand on its own without it. The action is great and the plot good. The mention of the main character in the first Jumanji was great. uPDATE - saw the second movie “the Next Level” - totally disappointed in it. Again the only character that does the cussing is the black male. Why no one is saying this is type casting I don’t know. What is worse is the use of God’s name being used as a cuss word. Once Fridge’s character jumped into Jack Black it seemed every other cuss words were GD this and GD that. TOTALLY unnecessary and in very bad taste. Would not recommend this for children or adults. Ruined the movie for me. The story line did not need the language.

I grew up watching the original Jumanji with Robin Williams, and wasn't sure about them remaking the film. Then the concept was revealed and I found myself actually excited to see it play out. Not only that, but you have an all-star cast to fill the shoes and it turns out great. I'm glad to have finally watched this after having already purchased it on Blu-ray previously, as it was funny watching this cast play against their types. My case came with a different cover than what is pictured, but I actually prefer this new one to the original (cover). If you're a fan of anyone in the film, do yourself a favor and just enjoy it with some family &/or popcorn! It wasn't the funniest movie I've ever seen, but was pure entertainment joy! I think it does the original movie justice and never becomes too derivative of the first one. Digital copy redeemed in UHD on MoviesAnywhere with the extras too. I'm always happy to support The Rock!

Loved this movie - well cast, great character development in short amount of time, entertaining, edited well, moved along where it should, slowed down where it should, great acting and effects.

Cute movie. Easy to find on prime through our TV. The kids loved this movie. They said they like this version better than the older version…..I can’t say that I agree but it may be the nostalgia for me. Definitely worth a watch if you remember the old version.

In this movie, five teens are placed in avatars that have all the qualities they lack in real life. The most amazing thing is how well the actors playing the avatars remained true to the personalities and characters of the original teens. Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock was so good a playing an insecure nerdy teenage boy that, that in itself was good for many laughs. The other characters did equally well (mostly), Jack Black was a little out of his element playing a vain, self-absorbed, foxy debutant. This is a coming of age movie where the participants in the "Jumanji" game get a chance to embrace all the challenges they need to in order to grow up, something that a lot of so-called adults never do. I guess you could say that it takes a certain amount of courage and initiative to accomplish that, which means this movie models behavior that both teens and so-called adults can benefit from emulating. Take charge of your life, be your best self (not a follower) is the message communicated in a super fun, often times hilarious, thrilling, and excitement filled environment.
