Who doesn’t love a Kong movie

It was great as a monster movie; the fights are excellent and the CGI amazing. However, I like Peter Jackson's film better, because it had more period feel to it. In the Jackson flick, it really felt like the 1930's, but KK: Skull Island was set in such an isolated location that you just didn't get that historical ambience. It's not that they didn't try; they spent some time on scenes meant to make you feel like you were in Nam in early 70's. But for some odd reason, it just didn't mesh with the rest of the story. There was some clever citationality (one character named Conrad and another called Marlow). My only other criticism is that they managed somehow to keep Brie Larson from having much sex appeal. A shame, because she's a gorgeous woman who deserves to be objectified by the male gaze :-) ;-)

K:SI succeeds not only as a superb monster movie, but also as a great movie in it's own right. With the general direction that Kaiju (giant monster) films have taken recently,( i.e.overuse of CGI effects with just the barest bones of a story and characters you don't really care about ) I had very low expectations for this movie. Imagine my delight upon first viewing this, and discovering not only spectacle, but SUBSTANCE as well! A STORY with horror, pathos, humor and characters that you really care about! When I saw Peter Jackson's King Kong, I thought that was the final word on the story about the great ape. It was so perfectly done, that I couldn't imagine yet another take on the cinematic icon being any good. Along comes director Jordan Vogt-Roberts to prove me , delightedly, wrong! I would put Kong:Skull Island at the top of my list of Best Monster Movies of the Last Decade and , so far, as the Best Movie of 2017.

This is not the same Kong as the original King Kong story and that's fine with me. I'm not a big fan of the New York part of the original story nor its ending. I much prefer this story where they go to Kong's Island and he doesn't leave. I think the acting is fantastic (I love almost anything Samuel L Jackson does) and I've been a fan of Tom Hiddleston since his Loki appearances.Technically, this is a prequel to Godzilla (with Godzilla vs Kong in the wings as the 3rd installment), but other than some minor references to monsters, Godzilla just isn't any part of this. It is all Kong and a version of Kong I like.Blu ray is excellent quality and the movie looks great. If you're a fan of giant monsters (Godzilla and Kong being the top) have a watch, good story and good movie.

I'm going to make this review super short but to the point. I think this movie was an awesome action movie with different bits of small comedy scenes, apart from some of minor, cliché slow motion scenes. I think this Kong movie in particular definitely stood out from many of the others. I also enjoyed how it gave a new aspect of Kong instead of the old generic theme of Kong, its nice to see new life in old stories. Additionally, I enjoyed the little teaser at the very end of the ending credits, I look forward in seeing what else is in store from these types of movies. But again I want to reiterate that I thought some of the cliché scenes weren't needed and also the leader of the platoon was a little... Different. But other than that, I really enjoyed this film, delightful entertainment.

Decent! Peter Jackson did it better I think, though.
