I've seen parts of this movie on TV in the past. It was a $5 add-on for an Amazon order so I bought it.It's an old movie which has some good acting and actual footage of the battle of Midway. As always, Charlton Heston puts life in his character to make it interesting. The best part of the movie in my opinion is the telling of it from the Japanese side.Overall it is a pretty good movie if a bit slow until the battle actually starts. For the person not very familiar with the history of this battle if is well worth watching as a history lesson if nothing else.
Cust********91LExcellent long time favorite ww2 movie and An awesome upgrade in picture quality and sound quality on Blu Ray HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR THIS FAMOUS MOMENT IN HISTORY
Cust********F1LBought this as a gift for one of my nephews. He loved the movie. I loved the transaction.
Cust********HQBOriginal Midway movie in my house was a must. We saw the remake and it was good but this one was fabulous and a classic.
Cust********JXCThey did the best that they could, which means an excellent cast and script, and accurate factual data. Some sleight errors (It had to be difficult to find a straight deck flattop that wasn't a museum piece or mothballed when this was produced, and when Charlton Heston bought it it looked like a jet crash) don't detract from the integrity of the film. The biggest goof I could find was they substituted James Whitmore for Robert Mitchum in the cast photos inthe X-Ray section.Personal dramas aside this is a good insight into the actual events that led to the US victory and the turning point in the Pacific War.
Cust********BIONot quite the caliber of Tora Tora Tora but very good.
Cust********82EThe big name actor's in this movie would take up two pages and probably more if you included their accolades. When you think about the fact that no computers were used to put in any part of this movie you have to admit they did a grand job.The footage of Midway was shot on location with the help of the Japanese war planes spraying bullets and dropping bombs my Mr John Ford. He actually was injured during the filming of the scenes. You don't see a director doing that today.
Cust********CDABe sure to watch the bonus material about the making of this movie. The historical information is invaluable. The movie itself is a masterpiece, and of course you can't go wrong with John Williams doing the music. But every American needs to see this movie, and remember what we did right, and what we did wrong. You cannot erase history, no matter how hard you try. You can only learn from it (if you're smart). If you try to re-write it, no one can learn from it.
Cust********B06This is a great move and the film work and picture quality is excellent. I used the DVD for many years and when I found this available on Blu-ray I jumped at the opportunity to add it to my collection. There is a big difference in picture quality between the DVD and Blu-ray.
Cust********7CSUniversal did a great job on the remaster of this great War film. From start to end the quality of both audio and video are excellent. The video is pretty sharp and has a very crisp picture, but the archive footage is not the best done. The audio is really clear and sounds great on 5.1 surround sound. Universal did provide English DTS-Master HD audio 2.1 and English, Spanish subtitles. This is presented in Widescreen format and runs for about 132mins (2hr 12mins). This movie also provides us with an all-star cast, which includes: Charlton Heston, Henry Fonda, James Coburn, Robert Wagner, Glenn Ford, Hal Holbrook, Toshiro Mifune, Robert Mitchum, Cliff Robertson Robert Webber and was directed by Jack Smight. As for the bonus features there are quite a bit and here is the list of them: The making of Midway, The score of Midway, Sensurround: The sounds of Midway, They were there: Hosted by Charlton Heston, Scenes shot for TV version, Photograph montage and Theatrical trailer.Overall this is a great Blu-ray and I would recommend this for anyone's Blu-ray collection.
