I read the book long ago in high school and thought it was fantastic, so I gave this movie a try. This is a solid movie with good acting and a consistent story line. It's no substitute for the book, but it gives a great rough sketch.

Unfortunately remakes gets a bad rap because people watch the movie already having prejudged it to be bad and they cling to their preconceived notions no matter what. To all the nay-sayers out there I have to ask, what movie were you watching? Put simply, this was an excellent movie and well worth watching. Give it a chance.

Had no idea what this movie was about. Someone strongly suggested I watch it along with a lecture about going after what you want most in life. This movie made me feel. And the ending left me with mixed emotions. When it was over, I watched it again.

Loved the first one with Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman but this one is just as good if not better. Pretty graphic regarding the deplorable conditions in the French Prisons and Devils Island, But great acting and a terrific rendition of how Papillion was framed for murder. Riveting and intense..

I can remember seeing Papillon so many years ago and how I was so touched and moved by the movie. I really didn't want to see the remake and put it off until today when I decided to watch it. I have to say I was touched and moved just like I was then. An excellent and MUST see movie.

Charlie was strong in this role, totally authentic. His acting gets better and better. Rami Malek has a new fan in me, he immersed himself in the role as did Charlie. I found myself thinking of Steve and Dustin in their interpretations of the roles and Charlie and Rami brought Oscar caliber performances too. The movie will stick with you for a while too.
