It feels like satire or dark humor but it's mostly true. The timeline is sped up quite a bit but no matter how absurd it might seem, that's how insanely crazy Stalinist Russia was. Brilliantly portrayed, a masterpiece.

The more I watch it, the more I love it. When it came out, it mirrored a few things in our world so closely that it was equal parts hilarious and unsettling. But now that I have faced the darkness within and without, I can just sit back and enjoy the comic brilliance. Fans of In The Loop and The Thick of It will all know enough not to miss it.

I absolutely love this movie!! I bought it on prime to watch because I’d seen previews and wanted to see it badly. though it came out at such and such date it didn’t come out on hard copy til like a year later so when I finally was able to find it I bought it and watched it again still just as great I find it hilarious myself

There are some Soviet officials who are not really spoken of in American world history textbooks. Not really sure why, probably can't stuff everything into one. As such, this film helps bring attention to Stalin's final crew before the tyrant died. It's a comedy, but it also brings to light the kind of environment the Soviet Union was. And one can watch as Khrushchev slowly comes into power over his rivals...

A really underrated film. Well-acted with a unique comedic approach to a series of events that most folks may not be aware of (the chaotic struggle for power after Stalin's death in Russia). I definitely looked everything up on wikipedia after and it's interesting to realize how much of the movie is actually factual, as absurd as it seems. The film literally contains no russian and the actors don't even attempt accents, which I think adds to some of the humor of it.

More black comedy than history, this offbeat gem still succeeds in throwing a ruthless light on the lunacy by which all dictatorships seem to rule. Although Buscemi is physically miscast as Khrushchev, his strong performance drives the narrative all the way, supported by a strong cast of geriatric male character actors.

The movie may not be 100% correct historically, but it is very entertaining and enjoyable. The cast is excellent.

This movie hews remarkably close to what we know about the real story of Stalin's death and its aftermath while poking enormous fun at it. Casting Steve Buscemi as Kruschev was inspired.

This is comedy relief of a traumatic time in history. I remember reading about all the participants in this movie as leaders in the Soviet Union. To see them spoofed as buffoons was fun. The movie is rated R for the language; at first I thought it unfortunate that the participants talked the way they did. For the sake of a movie, a comedy, why didn't the producers clean up the language. But then I read a comment that was the way they talked. They were savage, brutal, uncouth men. They were not loveable at all.
