I was totally immersed from the start. I wouldnt normally be drawn to a war film but being a keen fan of Lily James (who is brilliant in this) I had to give this one a go and am so glad I did. From the moment Mieke opens the door to Stefan, you feel an attraction as their eyes meet. The relationship moves on at a rather spectacular pace but is highly charged and wonderfully acted by both characters. I havent come across Jai Courtney before but was utterly amazed to find that he is actually Australian, testament to his portrayal of the German Captain. Christopher Plummer was totally believable as the exiled Kaiser. I found myself wanting to know more about him; why did he end up in Holland, how and when did he die... Throughout the film the tension builds and you wonder how on earth Mieke the spy can possibly escape the SS but she does, with the help of her German Captain and the Kaiser, with performances that are heart wrenching and heart warming, respectively. The ending is tidy and leaves you feeling positive about the future but it would be wonderful to have a sequel, showing us whether the love story really does have a happy ending and what happens to the Kaiser. A war film without a lot of blood and guts but full of good acting.

Really fun film the critics panned. I watch it multiple times. Excellent cast and sexiest woman alive in Lily James in the buff for us DOM.

Well told story, if not exactly plausible. Christopher Plummer was....Christopher Plummer. Has he ever turned in a bad performance? And, Lily James...girl has some serious attributes. Different performance from Cinderella. Predicting a great future for her.

Again Christopher Plummer has given a performance that was absolutely spectacular. The plot is a little bit cheesy but overlooking Jai Courtney's terrible German accent, the movie is worth the watch.

How did pre WW2 Germany evolve from a Christian (Catholic) based aristocratic monarchy into a totalitarian murderous war waging regime? âThe Exceptionâ posits an interesting perspective. Fine acting, directing and superlative dialog add up to a compelling cinematic experience. Christopher Plummer is an exceptional actor of the very highest order. His like is never to been seen again. This is one of his last performances. Not to be missed!

This film challenges us all to be the "Exception"...to live our lives beyond Duality (them vs. us),toward a more compassionate and inclusive world.Christopher Plummer's acting was worthy of an OSCAR.Lily and Jai were delicious. The supporting cast were equally convincing.Don't miss this gem of a movie..."alert the ducks" !
