I love this movie!! I鈥檒l forever rent it as silly as that may sound, maybe I should just but it lol I look into it..

A highly entertaining interpretation of the famous stand by the Spartans at Thermopylae.Educational extras as well.

Painful aspects of hard-nosed adulthood are not avoided here. The violence of standing up against well armed enemies for your family and being betrayed is graphic though any real man would say it's justified. It's just not for kids. The cinematography is outstanding and the acting is very well done. It is far too graphic violence to be seen by children. In my day, it was for 18 and up, a hard R and some aspects are so pornographic as to be X.Let children be children. It's not cool or right to ruin a child's sense of hope, love and trust to watch what is not nearly a docu-drama so much as a video homage to blood spray.

It has got a lot of things that guys like: sex, violence, more violence, conquering good over evil, beating some fake god at his own game. I like the action, the script, the acting, some more than others, some less than others but that is to be forgiven, it's acceptable to have some bad acting in a man's movie, LOL; like when the warrior yelled out in the middle of the King Leonidas' speech, I felt the warriors enthusiasm was lost. That brings me to another good point, in most action movies there is a lot less dialogue and that is what makes it work, "show don't tell" is the motto of an action movie and I felt this movie did that quite well.

I do not like violent movies but was interested in this movie because as a young girl I saw Richard Egan, my favorite actor then, in" 300 Spartans" and wanted to see Gerard Butler, my favorite actor now, in this version. It is a part of world history. It is important in these times as in all times in history for us to realize what it takes to be free. Looking up the dates in history books it seems to be in the correct place in history i.e. the correct Persian King that came against the Spartans. Although it is extremely violent, it is what happens in hand to hand combat. We all need to realize what our soldiers do to keep us free from tyranny although there is not so much hand to hand combat in our time, they are still laying their lives down for us.

Have seen and like, so I wanted the blu-ray copy for my library. There are some scenes that I would have changed in this movie but overall it鈥檚 worth owning for various reasons.

As the title for this review suggests, this movie is high on hype. However that makes it far from being a poor cinematic piece. The Spartans have been fabled as some of the best strategic and well trained soldiers in all of Greek history.To bottom-line it, this really brings you into their way of life. They live to die essentially, you will see how brutal Spartans are and how even against enormous odds their life-training is really what helps them fight against a massive force of Persians.Anyways should you get this movie?- If you like to watch dramatized historic events captured on screen. Then Yes.- If you don't like mild to moderate gore. Then no.- If you're expecting something that will just blow you away with superb acting, deep characters and a thick and juicy plot. Look else-where.In short, this is a very energetic revival of the fabled Spartans with a lot of help from 21st century technology.

As I said in the title, 300 is visually stunning and innovative, it's filled with macho 1-liners that will be quoted for years and has the added advantage of telling on of the great stories of history. Some of the macho lines are even from history!Sure the history here is about as accurate as the science in Star Wars, but that's fine. We all know Xerxes was not 10' tall and probably did not have access to hand grenades. And it's kind of funny to hear the slave-owning Greeks going on (and on) about freedom. But that's fine, this is over-the-top music video cartoon of a movie.I hesitated between 4 and 5 stars. I genuinely enjoyed it, and watched it along with its unnecessary sequel (1-star for that one) as well as the two Sin City films for a Frank Miller weekend. This is the best of the four.

In short, this movie is a veritable visual spectacle on your 1080P television. The content of the film itself is precisely what it aims to be and it is beautifully rendered in Blu-Ray in MOST instances. There are certain darker scenes (such as when Dilios is addressing the assembled Spartan soldiers around the campfire) that simply did not seem to translate well. While most of the dark scenes were rendered beautifully (i.e. not a calibration issue with the television), this and a few other dark scenes, had a noticeable amount of noise (over the entire area of the picture, not just the dark area). By fine-tuning my LNT4671f I was able to mute the effect substantially from the out-of-box settings, but this problem is present ONLY in these scenes on THIS Blu-Ray movie (I have several). Despite this minor quibble, the movie is spectacular, with all the glorious HD fight scenes you could ask for, and is really a stellar title for showcasing what your 1080p TV is capable of with the proper input.

Do you want a movie with a deep, nuanced plot that leaves you with something to think about? If so, skip this.Do you want an all-out action flick with over-the-top Snyder gore, uncomplicated good vs. evil and an oversimplification of the events so egregious that history buff's televisions are in serious peril? Have I got the movie for you!
