Great movie! Great history! Xander Berkeley brings this character to life in an amazing way. Enjoyable cast, music, and writing.

A charming valentine to those who work so tirelessly behind the scenes to enhance our movie going experience! Perfectly cast and beautifully staged with period detail. Hollywood in the 1940s was full of refugee artists who brought European classicism to the creative process. A fine portrait of one of those artists. Well done, Mr. Berkeley!

Xander Berkeley (Mario) strikes the perfect balance as a composer/teacher trying to inspire whatever talent and creativity might be inside a student. Reviewing this movie as a professional musician for 40+ yrs, he reminded me of the people who helped me find my creative core. The movie shows the struggle (all pros go thru it) of Jerry who doesn't know if he has "it" in order to have a future that might even pay the bills.

I watched this movie with a friend and it is a great emotional film. This film tells a story that is very relatable. It speaks to the fear that everyone has about trying to succeed and the struggle of recognition. It also provides a window into a part of music and film history that is often left as a footnote.

Chances are that you've never heard of The Maestro--Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. I certainly hadn't. But you've no doubt heard and been influenced by his teaching and his music. The Maestro is a slow and steady burn like a warm candle flickering in a darkened room examining the challenges and beauty of art. If you are looking for explosions and fast paced drama, this isn't the film for you. But if you'd like to cozy up by the fire, crack open a good book, and get a glimpse into a life that will keep you contemplating after the credits have rolled, then welcome to The Maestro.

In fact, I backed it up a bit after it was over because I wasn't ready for it to end. I went back to the part when Mario went from composer to composer with such animation on his face. Xander Berkeley was OUTSTANDING in this film! His accent, his mannerisms, everything. Rent it or better yet, BUY IT!

This is a film that will inspire you to honor your inner calling in life. The story is uplifting, the performances are top rate, and all production elements deliver in artistry and quality. Leo Marks is particularly effective as the Maestro's student, learning not only the art and craft of film scoring but also the importance to be true to yourself in spite of pressure to make choices in life to please others. I saw this movie in the theater and highly recommend it.
